The Spirit of the Alchemist

The Spirit of the Alchemist

Israel González “Matador” is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores the depths of transcendence and the relationship between humanity and the cosmos. He frequently employs ultramarine blue, a color that connects him to the sea, evoking the depths of the unconscious, and to the sky, symbolizing expansive freedom. Through this contrast, Matador achieves balance between the opposing forces of nature, creating works that not only invite introspection but also restore the lost bond with the universe, reminding us that the visible world is merely a superficial layer of a deeper reality.

His work is influenced by systems of thought such as alchemy, metaphysics, and esotericism, resulting in an intentionally intuitive and experimental approach to art. Sounds, words, symbols, and forms in his creations act not only as means of expression but also as vehicles for spiritual transformation. Contemplating these sonic or visual elements is not about magically or mechanically altering the world but rather about mapping consciousness and illuminating its connection to reality. Both the sonic and the visual resonate through vibrational behavior: reality vibrates, and the thresholds Matador creates allow for tuning into a harmonic clarity that fosters transparency.

Matador’s work is focused on crafting mantras that invite mindful contemplation. In his vision, art becomes a space where correspondences and “meaningful coincidences” emerge, representing the vibratory fabric that connects consciousness and reality. He also draws inspiration from other esoteric principles, such as the correspondence between the macrocosmic and the microcosmic and the organic interplay between the parts and the whole. For some artists, the esoteric framework serves as a formal structure to host “profane” elements; for others, as with Matador, it is a starting point—a stance that transforms each piece into a phase of an artistic manifesto reflecting his profound perspective on reality.
