Santiago Paredes (Buenos Aires, 1988) is a self-taught artist whose education comes largely from the internet, independent publications, album covers, and art monographs. He creates complex scenes filled with layered references, appropriations, and simulations that engage in an ongoing dialogue with the history of images.

During his residency at Proyecto H, Paredes spent a month exploring the neighborhoods of Mexico City, absorbing the city’s distinctive urban iconography.

The diversity of the landscape is evoked through eclectic, timeless elements and a fusion of symbols, forming a composition of free association that finds meaning in the final image. Rather than relying on clichés or obvious references, Santiago’s work captures the “essence of the thing” rather than the “thing” itself.
