Santiago Paredes is a self-taught artist from Buenos Aires, Argentina. His main education was sur ng the internet, D.I.Y publications,
album covers and art monographs. Initially trained as a musician.
A distinctive feature of his artistic approach is his ability to generate the image before the object, and then nd an output to these
works by researching the materiality that best suits the tone and essence of what it represents. This ability has allowed him to explore
various mediums such as silk, plush, corduroy, and rigid surfaces like plexiglass and aluminum. His diverse interests led him to work in
the eld of fashion, where he has created commissions and designs for his own brand and internationally recognized clients such as
Dom Pérignon, Meta, Gucci, Alika LA, OCB, Outsider Division, Rebish Int, among others.
Santiago Paredes stands out for merging di erent styles and forms of art into a single work, encompassing in uences ranging from
Persian miniatures to Japanese printmaking, as well as high fashion and contemporary pop culture. The central theme of his work
always revolves around the poeticization of the everyday, composition through color and the liminal space between art and design.
However, after extensively exploring the possibilities of his artistic research, Paredes has decided to make a signi cant shift in his
career. His latest series of works represents a signi cant departure from digital image design and printing, as he delves into analog
painting on large hand-painted canvases.
Inspired by the aesthetics of 20th-century masters during his residency at the Espronceda Institute in Barcelona in 2022, Paredes
returned to brushes after eight years of working exclusively on the computer. This experience led him to embrace the beauty of
human error and the allure of materials. His new canvases re ect the process of time and multiple layers of work, highlighting the use
of markers, graphite, printer ink, acrylics, crayons, and conte pencils.
In these large hand-painted works, Paredes aims to maintain the vectorial sensitivity as if they were a screen but with analog
mediums. In the latest series of works, he captures the intention of transforming everyday aspects into extraordinary images.
His work invites the viewer to see the world with fresh eyes and appreciate the beauty and complexity even in the simplest things.
