Alvaro Borobio’s work explores the dualism between the human sphere and that of the natural , which the artist manipulates when generating new realities that conceive nature and urban architecture as a single entity, although the artist is in charge of emphasizing their polarity by interweaving (sometimes literally overlapping by means of layers), representations and dissociated visual languages.
Through his particular expressiveness, he manifests a concern regarding the relationship between metropolitan society, the natural environment and the active role that man develops in the encounter between the two. Through the lively and energetic color palette of his paintings, Borobio aims to awaken in the viewer unusual moods , moving us to hypothetical places far from everyday life, always inviting reflection . In this way, he criticizes the accelerated rates of growth and development that govern our reality, offering other alternatives in the form of fictitious places, different ways of inhabiting the world.
Alvaro Borobio exhibited his work at the art fair ESTAMPA in 2021, and now in 2023, the artist is working on his residency at Proyecto T in Mexico City.

In our residence space, Proyecto T, on the top floor of the gallery, the paintings of the two Spanish artists Álvaro Borobio and Federico Miró are presented. The exhibition “A Place without a Place” display the works created during the two months of residency in the gallery and is inspired, in part, by Mexico. One of the objectives of the artistic residency is to investigate how the city, the space, or the gallery influences the creation of artists. On this occasion, paintings such as “Coyoacán” by Borobio, or “Untitled” by Miró are presented, where pre-Hispanic symbols are appreciated, which clearly reflects their stay in Mexico.
